That’s a wrap on California’s first-ever Heat Pump Week
But the momentum is still going strong.
This April, something extraordinary happened in living rooms, parking lots, training centers, and town squares across California. Californians came together for events across 45 cities for the first-ever Heat Pump Week, from April 11–19, to celebrate and build awareness of heat pumps, the highly efficient appliances that are transforming the way we heat water, and heat and cool our homes.
Hosted by the California Heat Pump Partnership, this statewide activation brought together community members, industry leaders, contractors, policymakers, manufacturers, and utilities for a grand total of 116 events to help accelerate heat pump adoption and meet the state’s goal to install 6 million heat pumps by 2030.
Throughout the nine-day run, 57 partners and sponsors lent their support to make this campaign happen while community members attended events, manufacturers promoted discounts and trainings, and contractors highlighted installations. Heat Pump Week was also formally recognized by the California Senate under a resolution authored by Senator Scott Wiener, a signal of just how seriously the state is taking its clean energy future.

Building the heat pump buzz
Prior to Heat Pump Week, CAHPP’s new Wall Whisperer marketing campaign helped bring the heat pump conversation to new audiences. Running through June, Wall Whisperer uses a fun and engaging mockumentary-style format to follow a first-time homeowner couple navigating HVAC and water heating repairs. The campaign utilized influencer storytelling, widespread media outreach, and a broad network of partners to position heat pumps as the obvious, modern choice for home comfort and efficiency.
When Heat Pump Week launched, the response was immediate. Across social media in April, #HeatPumpWeekCA and related mentions reached 3.4 million users, driving 439 posts and 32,200 interactions, while heat pump incentive searches surged 50%. Partners across the state amplified Heat Pump Week through social media, newsletters, media features, advertisements, testimonials, educational content, and event highlights to help the message reach hundreds of thousands of Californians. This activity reflects a clear, piqued interest from homeowners looking to take action, and broader market trends back this up as heat pumps continue to outsell gas furnaces year after year.
Heat pumps at the heart of the community
The most important part of Heat Pump Week? The ambassadors and community hosts who showed out to host home parties, open houses, product demonstrations, and other local activations, creating welcoming spaces for neighbors to connect and learn about highly efficient electric appliances from people who have already made the switch. Californians had the chance to hear firsthand why 9 out of 10 heat pump owners recommend them to others: they’re healthy, safe, ultra-efficient, comfortable, and increasingly more affordable.
Written and video testimonials have captured just some of those stories, as real people share their real experiences. You can still send us a testimonial about why you love your heat pump, or why you really want one, with a quick video or photo and a short blurb. Spotlighting the state’s highly-skilled workforce
Demand for heat pumps is growing every year, and the state’s 2025 Energy Code, encouraging energy-efficient heat pumps for space and water heating, went into effect this January. This market momentum requires a robust workforce ready to meet it.
Heat Pump Week celebrated the state’s contractors with workforce trainings, industry events, and the launch of the Building Decarbonization Coalition’s revamped Contractor Hub, a free digital platform that connects heat pump professionals with free leads, educational resources, and tools to grow their businesses to be ready for the clean energy economy. Contractors who attended shared how heat pumps are helping grow their businesses year-round.
Industry partners and manufacturers such as Gradient, Bosch, Daikin, Fujitsu, Lennox, LG, Mitsubishi, Rheem, General HVAC Solutions, and Trane helped amplify the message and highlight available technologies, while organizations like TECH Clean California, Efficiency First California, and the Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator helped extend the reach even further through their networks.
Flagship events
Heat Pump Week was anchored by three flagship events in San Francisco, Sacramento, and Los Angeles. Each convened a cross-section of the people who are driving the state’s clean energy transition, including policymakers, industry leaders, contractors, advocates, and heat pump enthusiasts, but there was a throughline in all of them: heat pumps are the future.
The Bay Area flagship event honed in on innovation inside the heat pump market, with speakers from the California Energy Commission, San Francisco Department of Environment, Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E), and Senator Scott Wiener. At the Los Angeles flagship event, a press conference announced new incentives for homeowners rebuilding all-electric homes in the wake of last year’s wildfires, with representatives from state programs, local utilities, and community organizations sharing the stage. It was a powerful reminder that heat pumps are tools that meet the very real needs of our communities today and tomorrow.
Many of the state’s industry leaders showed their support for Heat Pump Week either in person or virtually. Utilities like Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E), MCE, and Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) helped bring Heat Pump Week directly to their customers through large-scale outreach and education, while regional energy networks like BayREN and 3C-REN elevated events and resources across their communities. Local governments and organizations, including the City of Irvine, Marin County, and Menlo Spark, hosted workshops and connected residents to trusted information. Below, you can watch or read remarks from just a few of the industry leaders who participated in Heat Pump Week.
- Chair David Hochschild, California Energy Commission
- Jennifer Granholm, Former U.S. Secretary of Energy
- Don Kwack, President and CEO, LG Electronics North America
- Secretary Wade Crowfoot, California Natural Resources Agency, and Commissioner Andrew McCallister, California Energy Commission
What’s next?
Heat Pump Week was created to help everyday people learn more about heat pumps, give contractors the tools to talk about them, and move the industry in the same direction. We accomplished just that, and we’re looking forward to maximizing that impact moving forward.
A sincere thank you to our partners, ambassadors, community members, and industry leaders who made the first-ever Heat Pump Week in California a success. If you came to one of our events, we’d love to hear from you in this survey!
