The 4th Annual Electric Happy Hour Celebrated All-Electric Homes in Sacramento
Last month, the Building Decarbonization Coalition (BDC) hosted its annual Electric Happy Hour in Sacramento alongside Assemblymember Rhodesia Ransom, a champion for affordability and healthy communities, and the Asian Pacific Islander Capitol Association (APICA), as well as sponsors Daikin and Copper Home.
In its fourth year, the signature event—which is designed to educate and raise favorability with policymakers and their staff for electrification through heat pumps and induction—drew record attendance with guests including, sitting California Assemblymembers Mike Fong, Tasha Boerner, and José Solache, whose presence reflects the growing legislative momentum behind California’s clean energy transition and the work the California Heat Pump Partnership (CAHPP) and its partners are doing across the state. Other attendees were from the Governor’s office, California Senate and State Assembly offices, Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E), the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD), the Bay Area Air District, and more.
Daikin showcased its highly efficient heat pump technology, giving attendees a hands-on opportunity to learn why they have become the go-to solution for year-round home comfort—and why heat pumps are outselling gas furnaces nationwide for the fourth year in a row.
Guests enjoyed crispy pan-fried chicken potstickers, fresh Korean beef bulgogi lettuce cups, and an interactive chocolate-dipping station, all prepared by celerity chefs Chef Katie Chin and Chef Lisa Pinckney-Wong live on Copper’s Charlie stove.
Bringing home electrification influence to the Capitol
During remarks from hosts and sponsors, attendees learned how switching to electric technologies like heat pumps and induction stoves is one of the most direct ways households can reduce their energy bills and energy bills. Speakers emphasized how heat pumps, for example, can handle both heating and cooling in a single appliance, and are three to four times more efficient to help bring down energy costs.
“In a tough year where households are grappling with energy security and affordability, electrification is a proven economic solution,” said Beckie Menten, California Director at the Building Decarbonization Coalition, in her opening remarks. “Heat pumps tap into increasingly abundant, low-cost renewable energy. Even today, electrification can save households money. We’re at a pivotal moment when we can invest in electrification through smart policy and funding for programs.”
Building toward 2030
Electric Happy Hour continues to prove that firsthand experience is one of the most powerful tools in the clean energy transition. Watching chefs cook a flawless meal on an induction range, or learning how a heat pump can heat and cool a home so efficiently, makes a lasting impression on policymakers and stakeholders to help meet the state’s target of six million heat pump installations by 2030 and support policies that further accelerate California’s clean energy transition.
